Imagine an Olympic hopeful showing up to practice everyday without their coach to guide them… or a singer with an abundance of talent with no one to teach them how to use it… or even a classroom full of students with no instructor at the front of the room. All of these examples sound hard to imagine because without a coach, trainer, or mentor, the Olympic hopeful would be just that, the singer would comfortably sing what they already knew and the classroom would be void of guidance.
These examples may seem far away from the reality of the average person, but the point is that no matter what our hopes, dreams, goals, and aspirations, we all need someone to assist us in staying on the path that leads us to our goals. You must train your mind the way you would train your body. Life is truly an ongoing marathon – you must constantly stay in training in order to keep your momentum going. This does not mean you need to sign on with a coach for the rest of your life, on the contrary, a coach is a person that will help you figure out your goals, make an outline and a time line to achieve those goals, and hold you accountable to the tasks that are involved every step of the way.
Having a coach doesn’t mean that you won’t have set backs, but your coach will watch you from the sidelines to let you know what you can do differently and not lose momentum. The truth of the matter is, if you are at any time uncomfortable during the coaching process, then know that at the very moment you are growing and moving in the direction of your goals…you are developing and on your way to be the best YOU that you can be!
